The Times, They Are Exciting

Ok, so let's see here:

We've got one of the most surreal presidential races going right now, with the first woman VP for the Republican ticket and the first black man for the democratic Presidential pick. The stock market has crashed almost to the point of the great depression, the 30 year+ era of deregulation is supposedly coming to an end, major, century+ old financial institutions are now dead and gone, hurricanes have crushed Texas, technological breakthroughs are coming at an insane rate (including such things as cybernetic limbs and mind-reading helmets and implants), people are just as religious and irrational as ever, and the much-anticipated game Spore gets populated by a wide array of Penis monsters.

One thing it ain't is boring, I can say that at least. Lots of bad, lots of good, but it's all interesting.

Meanwhile, life goes on, and my 20's are now a memory.

Turning 30 was sort of anti-climactic. Pretty much every birthday since I turned 21 was anti-climactic, to be honest. No more great mile-stones of maturing left.

In some ways I think I've accomplished very little in the last ten years...I sure played a lot of video games too, as I look back on things. At the same time, I guess I've accomplished quite a bit though. I got married, got a house, and our financial situation is good enough that the economic crash doesn't appear that it's going to have too much of an impact on us. We're doing some cool volunteer work, and I've got enough freedom to pursue my overwhelming list of hobbies.

The state of the world is disappointing (although it appears that it'll get a little better in November), but by and large, my life is pretty good.

There, a rare ray of happy sunshine. I'll bring the doom and gloom back tomorrow.
